Smartphone uses point to mobile targeting as potential win for SEO campaigns
A report from comScore suggests that targeting smartphone users can help companies with new media marketing efforts, as the growing portion of the total mobile phone market continues to use different web channels more frequently. Additionally, Android’s popularity makes Google SEO even more valuable to businesses given the seamless integration between the mobile OS and the world’s most frequently used search engines. ComScore reported that Android currently accounts for 50.9 percent of smartphones in use in the United States. As these devices become more popular among users, the value of targeting mobile users will grow even further, especially as BIA/Kelsey reports that mobile search will reach 30 billion queries this year. The number of overall mobile phone users accessing the web from their devices reached 49.8 percent, which means smartphones make up about half of the total market. Numbers from different reports have pegged smartphone ownership in the U.S. between 49 percent and more than 50 percent of all mobile phone users. Another positive byproduct of smartphone growth for web marketers is social media use, with 36.7 percent of all mobile phone owners accessing a social network. Brafton recently reported that Twitter is an especially valuable asset to companies looking to improve social media marketing campaigns by targeting mobile audiences, as more than 60 percent of the site’s users access it from a mobile device. Report: Ecommerce spending grows 17 percent in 2012′s first quarter
Americans spent 17 percent more on the web in the first quarter of 2012, according to a report from market research firm comScore. The company pegged total online purchases at more than $44.2 billion, which represents substantial growth compared to the $38 billion spent in the same three-month time period last year. The study also revealed that more consumers are using mobile devices to make purchases on the go. Thirty-eight percent of tablets users made a purchase with their handset between January and March, comScore found. Not only are Americans spending more money on the web, they’re being more aggressive in terms of researching the best value for their money. Increased buying from tablets and even smartphones likely indicates more (and constant) product research, however, the instant nature of the web could also lend itself to impulse purchasing. In general focusing on the offering valuable information to consumers and other prospects spending more time looking into items can help marketers boost sales. Brafton recently reported that more consumers are accessing news content on the web. As such, developing content marketing campaigns that present industry news to these prospects can help improve site traffic and compel conversions. Similarly, tablet owners may be ideal targets for these news content efforts with many saying that they access content from their handsets among other internet-connected devices they own. Brafton highlighted a study from Pew that found 34 percent of consumers regularly access news articles from their tablets and laptops, while others also do so with a smartphone. Continue reading
Studies show tablets becoming in-demand devices for businesses, consumers
A report from Yahoo found that tablets are quickly becoming the preferred devices for a number of tasks typically associated with desktop or laptop PCs. While more users consume news or entertainment-related content on their mobile devices, sales for tablets continue to rise and will do so steadily through at least 2017, according to a report from NPD DisplaySearch. Yahoo’s study suggests that consumers are using their tablets to access website content throughout the day. Whether it’s the 91 percent that said their iPad or other device is the tool they use to browse the web access articles and blog content before going to bed, or the increasing amount that prefers a tablet to television, the reach of news articles grows as more people use tablets. According to NPD, there were approximately 82 million tablets in use in the U.S. in 2011. Continue reading
Smartphone market up 42 percent, news content marketing rises to the forefront
A report from IDC suggests that companies looking to alter their marketing campaigns may want to target smartphone users. The study found that global smartphone ownership increased by more than 42.5 percent in first quarter of 2012 compared to the same three-month period in 2011, and Brafton has previously reported that mobile web users are more likely to search for the latest industry news content. Across Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android, growth has remained consistently strong as consumers and businesses opt for smartphones rather than feature phones. Currently, Apple’s iPhone accounts for 18.3 percent of all mobile phones currently in use, according to IDC. Gauging Android’s market share from IDC’s numbers is difficult due to their inclusion of feature phones. Continue reading
